Our investment in dental nurse benefits

Here at Portman we have been taking strides in making revolutionary changes to our dental nurse pay and benefits package. Our Managing Director for Portman UK and Ireland, Julie Ross tells us more about our £1.2million p.a. investment and changes to renumeration and benefit packages. Watch the video below to find out more.

Following a full review of nurse compensation and benefits, we have committed to making significant investments in our dental nurse population.

Portman already provides some industry leading benefits to our nurses that are well ahead of most other groups and independent practices. For example, all our colleagues have 2 weeks of sick leave, we pay for GDC registration as well as all CPD for all our nurses, and on top of 20 days holiday each year, we also have special days which let colleagues take time off to celebrate significant life events, including their birthday, every year.

The results of the review really allowed us to understand where we could ensure the biggest changes would genuinely impact the lives of our dental nurses. With that, our first announcement was an initial invest of £1.2m p.a. to further improve the overall compensation and benefits package for nurses.

Our investment

This investment includes: Effective 1st January 2022, all qualified nurses will be paid a minimum hourly rate of £10.25, with commitment to ongoing reviews of nurse compensation.

Also from 1st January 2022, all Portman employees will receive improvements in our family-friendly proposition. From 1st January maternity provision will increase to 90% of salary for 3 months and paid paternity leave will be introduced alongside this. We are very excited to be making this investment as it’s important to us as a people-focused organisation to support colleagues fortunate enough to become new parents.

In addition, during FY22 we’ll be introducing additional learning and development opportunities for our nursing and reception colleagues and establishing clear career pathways to help our colleagues build their careers in Portman.

Whilst we are excited to make this initial investment that will bring immediate changes and improvements to many of our nursing colleagues, we are firmly committed to continually evolving our proposition to ensure Portman remains the employer of choice for the best dental nurses in the country.
