What is ‘orthodontics’?
Orthodontic dentistry is a well established branch of modern dentistry involved with the treatment of malocclusions. This essentially means the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and maintenance, of wrongly positioned teeth. Alongside cosmetic issues, malocclusions can lead to health issues with your teeth, making you more prone to decay and gum disease.
What can be treated using orthodontics?
Orthodontics can treat a huge variety of malocclusions, including the following:
- Gaps and spacing
- Tilted/rotated teeth
- Open bites
- Un-erupted teeth
What does the process of correcting my smile involve?
If you are interested in orthodontic treatment, we will ask you to come in for an initial assessment with one of our dentists. Once we have discussed your concerns and examined your mouth, we will clearly explain what different treatment options are available, and the advantages of each. We will happily take the time to answer any questions you may have, and give you any time you need to decide upon which treatment, if any, you would like to pursue.
How long does treatment take?
On average, orthodontic treatments take between 9-12 months. However simpler cases will take less time, and more complex slightly longer. The perfect smile is definitely worth the wait!
