The process of fitting dental implants is usually divided into 2 or 3 stages, which may require more than one visit to your dentist. Your treating dentist will first examine your mouth before taking x-rays and scans or impressions to ensure that you are suitable for the procedure and allow the dentist to plan the best way to treat you. Sometimes some preparation is required to prepare your mouth ready for dental implants.

The next stage involves the treatment itself, where the implant root is inserted, which is normally done under local anaesthetic. The implant is carefully inserted into the bone and usually left for 3 months before being used to support replacement teeth. Structures will be fitted to the implants to act as the support for any crowns, bridges or dentures to fit seamlessly onto your implants. To complete treatment, your dentist will take final impressions, ensuring each part fits to ensure maximum comfort and results from your treatment.
